Dave Grohl is a man of the people!

In celebration of today’s Word page, which is celebrities rocking out at concerts, we bring you this awesome video of Dave Grohl rocking out in the crowd to Soundgarden last month. Not only is the lead Foo Fighter comfortable enough to go into the pit with other general admission fans, but the high profile singer seems to almost achieve anonymity because he is as genuinely psyched as any of them.

It’s interesting to note that when this song that he is rocking out to — “Fell on Black Days” — was released as a single in the fall of 1994, Grohl had certainly fallen on some Black Days himself. He was a 25-year-old unemployed drummer, after Kurt Cobain had put shotgun in his mouth that April and closed the book on Nirvana as well as ending a significant chapter in rock history.

But things were about to look up for Grohl, as he went into the studio to record and play nearly every instrument on a few dozen songs he had written while in Nirvana. Twelve of these songs ended up on the debut album by the Foo Fighters the next July, and Grohl was officially on his way to not being referred to as “that guy who played drums for Nirvana.”

With this video, he just may have begun a new chapter as “that guy who totally loves Soundgarden.” Nah, this is just another chapter in why Dave Grohl is just an all-around awesome dude.

And this we just had to include in its video format, though it may be a little bit NSFW. Here’s Danny DeVito at Coachella earlier this year. What? Where is he? How are we going to see that little guy in that huge crowd? Just wait until you get to the 48-second mark.
