Demi Lovato used to smuggle cocaine onto planes

Demi Lovato's book of inspirational quotes will be called Demi Lovato’s book of inspirational quotes will be called “Staying Strong.”

Lying to family. Smuggling drugs onto planes. Hiding booze in soda bottles.

At just 19 years old, Demi Lovato’s drug abuse was way out control.

The pop star, who’s now 21 and sober, opened up about her wild days before getting help. “I couldn’t go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine, and I would bring it on airplanes,” she told Access Hollywood. “I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I’d sneak to the bathroom and I’d do it.”

It wasn’t just her fellow passengers — Demi says she was able to hide her drug use from her mom, and even from her sober companion. “I’m very, very good at manipulating people and that was something that I did in my disease, I would manipulate everyone around me,” she admitted.

It was that soda bottle, though, that was her wake-up call. Demi says that she was swigging from a Sprite bottle full of vodka at 9 in the morning — on the way to the sober living house where she was staying — when she started throwing up. “I had a moment where I was like, ‘Oh my God. … that is alcoholic behavior.”

Demi’s not the only member of young Hollywood reflecting on a wilder time in their lives: Joe Jonas recently revealedthat he smoked marijuana for the first time with Miley Cyrus and ex-girlfriend Demi Lovato.
