Actor Edward Furlong was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty.
Furlong is accused of going to his girlfriend's house on May 21 and assaulting her, as well as damaging camera equipment and a laptop, according to People. This isn't the first brush with the law for the former '90s heartthrob: His ex-wife was granted a restraining order against him because of similar allegations. He already has two pending misdemeanor charges.
Furlong recently appeared in "The Green Hornet" and "CSI:NY," though he's perhaps still best known for his work as a teen and young man, in films such as "Terminator 2" and "American History X."
Furlong's is not the only high-profile assault case in the news this week. TV chef Nigella Lawson’s husband attacked her in broad daylight at a London restaurant, according to the Mirror. The UK newspaper has photos of Nigella’s husband, advertising executive Charles Saatchi, locking his hands around her neck several times and apparently choking her as she appears to try to pull his hands away. Nigella later left the restaurant in tears.
Although the incident went on for several minutes in clear view of the street and their fellow diners, onlookers were apparently too shocked to intervene. Bystanders said Nigella appeared to be trying to soothe her husband, laying her hand on top of his and at one point kissing him on the cheek.
