Intended to honor those in the entertainment industry gone too soon, this year’s Emmys “In Memoriam” segment, instead, ignited a wave of fury. While photos of Natalie Cole, David Bowie and Prince beamed across the big screen amid Tori Kelly’s rendition of “Hallelujah,” fans of the late musician Christina Grimmie grew upset as “The Voice” star wasn’t included in the reel. The 22-year-old was killed by a deranged fan outside a concert in June.

“The Voice” collected its trophy for Best Reality Competition Show, further upsetting the star’s fans, who later turned to Twitter to unleash their disapproval.

“Considering the number of other singers in the #Emmys in memoriam...where was Christina Grimmie?” one fan wrote, while another commented, “So the #Emmys left Christina Grimmie out of the ‘In Memoriam’ segment yet The Voice just won an Emmy tonight. Something ain’t right here.”
