George RR Martin confirms a ‘Game of Thrones’ movie is in the works

As if all the Emmys weren’t enough, the “Game of Thrones” folks are planning to make the jump to the big screen after its HBO run is wrapped up, author George RR Martin confirms, according to the Daily Star. “There will be a movie, but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and the [show’s writers] are dealing with,” Martin explains.”I have two more books to finish, and I still have so much to do.” That’s what I’ve been trying to tell him.

And an anonymous source on the hit series’ production staff says the movie could even feature some beloved but long-dead characters. “With the ‘Game Of Thrones’ universe there is much rich material and no constraints on when that story will take place,” the source says. “They are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one off-plot. That means that some of the big characters who fans have seen die on screen could be resurrected such as Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Oberyn Martell The Red Viper — and Ned Stark.” This, I can get behind.
