Go out before you go out

The weekend starts at 4 p.m. on a Friday. At least, it should. It starts with a glass of something bubbly and fresh strawberries.

The weekend starts at 4 p.m. on a Friday. At least, it should. It starts with a glass of something bubbly and fresh strawberries. Well, that’s how SalonCapri’s Blow-Out & Go-Out Fridays nudge in the weekend (through 8 p.m.). This super-smart salon has two locations, with a third due to open in South Boston’s upcoming Seaport Village. Its weekly event includes a discounted manicure, pedicure and blowout, plus complimentary make-up applications for a ready-to-go-out touch-up. For fall, owner and stylist Nick Penna Jr., whose stylist parents started the biz, sees bold color flashes (a la Katy Perry) and textured cuts as big trends. By 5 p.m., SalonCapri is buzzing with anticipation and chitchat. Manicurists intently file and paint, “shampooists” lather up, massage chairs whir and pummel while technicians cut and make like chemists with the color.

On Saturday morning after any big night out, the action at Allston’s 379 Club is equally split between lounging and grooming. With summer casual turning into fall formal, looking like you mean it is important. Especially with the retro-sharp glamour of Mad Men’s Don Draper as an au courant role model. A haircut’s one thing, but 379 has hot shaves, massages and manicures. Plush couches, plasma screens, billiards and a beverage bar gives 379 a “mancave”/club feel. It is both, and it offers annual memberships. Platinum includes the works (haircuts, beverages, hot shaves, massages, manicures) with chauffeured pick-up and drop-off. This is stylin’, big time.
