Green Day released their first new (non-Christmas) single today since 2012. “Bang Bang” came with the announcement of the band’s 12th studio album, “Revolution Radio,” due out Oct. 7 from Reprise Records.

Billie Joe Armstrong revealed the band was back in the studio when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. The news followed a intermittent/kind of/but not really hiatus after the conclusion of their 2014 Australian tour. Armstrong told BBC Radio 2 in late 2013, “We haven’t really been doing much. So it’s just nice to kind of do some other things, y’know, [then] when we get ready to do Green Day again, our batteries will be charged.”

“Bang Bang,” a whirling punk anthem that’s as Green Day-esque as Green Day can possibly get, peeks inside the upcoming 12-track album that Joel describes as “a movement for lost souls to come together… dance together… sing together… and most of all, find each other.”
