MOVIES
Wonderdonk Bike-In Movie Series presents ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’
Friday, 8:30 p.m., The Van der Ende-Onderdonk House, 1820 Flushing Ave., $7 suggested donation
Head to Ridgewood (on your bike or via the train) with a picnic and friends in tow, to enjoy “The Red Balloon” (1956) followed by “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,” both screened on the grounds of the historic Onderdonk House, NYC’s oldest Dutch colonial stone house.
‘Bellflower’
Through Aug. 21, Angelika Film Center, 18 W. Houston St., $10 suggested donation
If “Mad Max” and “Primer” were put in a blender with “(500) Days of Summer” you’d get something approximating Evan Glodell’s nightmarish, testosterone-tipped feature debut. Glodell stars as Woodrow, a down-home slacker-type who tinkers with cars and builds flamethrowers — until Milly, a sweet and spicy blonde with wandering genitalia, throws a wrench in the works.
OUTSIDE
Summer Streets
Saturday, 7 a.m.-1 p.m., Park Avenue, free
Summer Streets closes off a stretch of street from Central Park to the bottom of Manhattan for three consecutive Saturdays in August. Along the route, find free bike and Rollerblade rentals, sandboxes for the kids (or the young at heart), free yoga and running classes, and guacamole-making demos by Chipotle.
High Line Rink: Made for All by UNIQLO
Through Sept. 26, The Lot at the High Line, West 30th Street and 10th Avenue, $12
We’re sort of pissed at the High Line right now. We’re all for summer fun but their latest addition, an 8,000-square-foot open-air roller skating rink that’s open seven days a week is just too much. Don’t they know we have lives?
FIGMENT Minigolf Course: Bugs and Features
Friday-Sunday through Sept. 25, Governors Island, free
Fourteen holes are each designed by a different artist or architect, and have you navigate a giant fly swatter, ant farm tunnels, and a flea circus. Hop a ferry to the island, Friday, Saturday and Sunday all summer long to take advantage of this decidedly playful take on bugs.
