After nearly a decade of suspense, “How I Met Your Mother” finally revealed the identity of Ted’s future beloved and the mother of his children on last night’s season eight finale. Spoiler alert: It’s Broadway star Cristin Milioti!

According to Hollywood Life, last night’s “HIMYM” finally dispelled the mystery that’s driven eight years of comedy by providing a face for the titular character. Milioti seems like a great choice for the long-running sitcom — she’s a perennial guest star on shows like “30 Rock” and “Nurse Jackie,” but she’s probably best known as the star of the Broadway musical “Once.”

Not that all suspense is gone from the show: The audience met Cristin’s yellow-umbrella-toting character, but Ted hasn’t yet. So we know who he’ll meet, but not how. Way to keep us on the hook, “HIMYM” — and hey, since you guys cast Cristin, we wouldn’t say no to a musical episode next season.

It seems likely that some of the “HIMYM” cast are as eager as its audience for the plot to get moving — its shooting schedule is said to have interfered with star Jason Segel’s social life. His relationship with Michelle Williams reportedly couldn’t survive their geographical differences, as Williams lives in New York City, while Segel’s gig keeps him in Los Angeles most of the time.
