Idina Menzel spoke out on “Frozen” fans’ petition to give Elsa a female love interest in the animated film’s sequel. “I think it’s great,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the Billboard Music Awards red carpet in Las Vegas on Sunday. “Disney’s just gotta contend with that,” she continued. “I’ll let them figure that out…. No matter what, [Elsa] changed my life.” Fans have been using the Twitter hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend to encourage Disney to give the princess a same-sex partner in “Frozen 2,” following a tweet from Alexis Isabel Moncada on April 30. Moncada penned a first person essay for MTV explaining the viral movement, noting, “Giving young girls the chance to understand that a princess can love another princess the same way Cinderella loved her Prince Charming is vital to their development. No one deserves to feel isolated and confused about who they are.” The plot, title and release date for Disney’s “Frozen” sequel is still TBA.
