Indie Rock Ranger helps keep Boston local music Spectacular this season

Billed as Indie Rock Ranger’s Holiday Spectacular, the lineup at the Middle East on Saturday includes a diverse array of local bands that would probably only be on the same bill if they were competing against each other in the annual Rumble.

“The show draws from different pools of fans, which is important for a big event like this,” says booker Richard Bouchard, the Indie Rock Ranger in question who rounded up Freezepop, Sidewalk Driver, Parks, Animal Talk and Harris Hawk for this bill. “They’re all different, but the show will have a great flow to it and very much makes sense, it’s not just a haphazard lineup thrown together.

Elsewhere in Hub bands making nice together this weekend, the Boston Does Boston event at Brighton Music Hall and Great Scott sees local bands covering each other’s songs for three nights. Earlier this week we also saw acts from across every scene in the Hub jamming out to each other at the Boston Music Awards.

Bouchard says it’s great to put local acts together who aren’t necessarily part of the same scene, not just so the bands are exposed to other bands, but also for the fans.

“Maybe there’s crossover for a couple of the bands, the scene diehards, but the casual fans probably don’t see each other in the same room too often.”
