The mystery of what happened between Solange Knowles and brother-in-law Jay Z in The Standard hotel elevator may finally be solved. A source told the Daily News that trouble was stirring between Knowles and Jay Z when Knowles’ friends came to The Standard, demanding to get in by dropping Jay Z’s name.
“Two of her friends, who were not dressed for the Met Ball, showed up at The Standard and caused a scene downstairs,” the source told the News. “They wouldn’t leave and kept name-dropping Jay Z. They were pretending they were guests of his and not hers. Management went to Julius (Beyonce’s bodyguard) and said there’s a problem.”
The source said that afterward, Jay Z snapped at Knowles and told her not to use his name, causing her to pout and say she didn’t want to attend the party anymore.
The real fight started when Jay Z told Knowles and Beyonce that he would be attending Rihanna’s Met Ball afterparty.
“She seemed drunk and irritated,” another source told the News. “She said, ‘Why can’t you go home?’ and to Beyonce, ‘Why does your husband need to go to the club right now?'” Jay Z allegedly retorted, “You’re one to talk,” leading Knowles to start getting physical in the elevator.
In the end, Jay Z did not attend Rihanna’s party.
