Justin Bieber’s "Baby" music video has racked up more than a billion views on Vevo.
The 19-year-old is the first artist to reach the digital milestone. His four-year-old signature song proves its status once again as Vevo’s new bio and header, and Twitter’s top trending topic #BabyHit1Billion.
Bieber released the song as the lead single from his debut album, "My World 2.0," on Jan. 18, 2010. The music video later premiered exclusively on Vevo on Feb. 19, 2010. He was presented with the Diamond Award in July 2013 for "Baby" as the highest-certified digital single in U.S. music history.
When Bieber first hit the spotlight at age 14, it was quickly evident the tween pop star would change the industry as the youngest artist to sign with a record label. However, with Bieber’s fans and fame also came the feds. The young artist has recently been making headlines for DUI, an alleged egging and assault, as well as being protested by Atlanta residents. There was even a petition launched to have the Canadian singer deported.
Despite the bad press, there are clearly still enough Beliebers to keep his star shining. What was assumed to be the most hated music video has just become Vevo's most-watched clip.
The troubled pop star will turn 20 next week, and the bad rep hasn't seemed to slow his work. Bieber released his newest song on Friday, titled "Broken," in which he sings, “I cannot be broken.”
