The Word: Lawyer for J.K. Rowling behind pseudonym leak

When you have a client as wealthy and famous as J.K. Rowling, you do your best to keep her happy. It’s too bad the British law firm Russells didn’t follow suit.

The law firm announced on Thursday that one of their partners was behind the leak that Rowling penned the book “The Cuckoo’s Calling” under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. A partner in the firm let the secret slip to his wife’s best friend who then leaked it to the British press, the Associated Press reports. (Side note: The only way you give up this big of a secret to your wife’s best friend is if you are sleeping with said wife’s best friend, no?)

And now Rowling isn’t very pleased.

“Only a tiny number of people knew my pseudonym, and it has not been pleasant to wonder for days how a woman whom I had never heard of prior to Sunday night could have found out something that many of my oldest friends did not know. To say that I am disappointed is an understatement,” the famed author said. “I had assumed that I could expect total confidentiality from Russells, a reputable professional firm, and I feel very angry that my trust turned out to be misplaced.”

If she’s angry, imagine how that lawyer’s wife must feel.
