Make this yummy maple syrup cocktail before the snow comes again

Yum! Yum!

Thursday’s forecast calls for more snow (yuck), but we’ve got a solution to lift your spirits: This Maple Old Fashioned, created by Pamela Wiznitzer for lauded NYC bar The Dead Rabbit. It utilizes Crown Maple Syrup, which comes from the Madava Farms in New York. Folks from Crown Maple tell us that now’s a great time to see the farms (they’re open to the public on weekends!) because peak sap days are from mid-February through March. On March 22, there’s an open house with tapping demos, tours, tastings (maple candies!) and marshmallows. On April 6, there’s a barrel tasting, house tour and maple-inspired lunch. And on April 12, there’s a a day of cooking demos with chef Jacob Griffin.

But if you can’t get up to Madava Farms anytime soon, at least toast with this cocktail:

Maple Old Fashioned

1.5 parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon
.25 parts Crown Maple Dark Amber syrup
3-4 dashes Angostura Bitters

Combine Maker’s Mark Whisky and Crown Maple in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Be sure to mix thoroughly to event spread maple syrup. Add Angostura Bitters and stir before pouring into a rocks glass.
