If you’re after a "big" gaming experience, look no further than this retro arcade machine. Jason Camberis, who created the Arcade Deluxe, is now a Guinness World Record holder for the largest gaming system on the planet. The machine, which measures a whopping 14.5 feet tall and 3.5 feet deep, took the 44-year-old network engineer two years to build. It's fully-functioning and includes games such as PacMan and Dragon Spirit — but even adult players need to climb a ladder to reach the jumbo controls and 16-inch glass track ball. Camberis, who lives in Chicago, USA, explains what the Deluxe — featured in the Guinness World Records 2016 Gamer's Edition — has over more conventionally-sized consoles.
Q: How did the Arcade Deluxe project idea emerge?
After watching the news and seeing so much bad news on TV, I wanted to do something that would make people smile and also promote my custom home arcade business.
Q: Are you a big fan of arcade games?
I’ve always been a big fan of the arcades; I used to hang around them when I was growing up.
Q: What is the main point of the Arcade Deluxe?
The main point is to recreate the feeling you had when you were a kid walking into an arcade from the '80s.
Q: What was the process to create the Arcade Deluxe?
I have been building arcades for over 12 years but it was quite difficult making everything oversized.
Q: Is it for sale?
It’s been for sale since November and you can buy a smaller version for your home.
Q: What is your next project?
I have quite a few different projects that I am working on. I am creating several new designs, working on a smart house and making oversized iPads. I am always working on something.
