Mariah Carey’s kids don’t know about the engagement (yet)

With a 35-carat diamond ring on her finger, it’s no secret Mariah Carey recently got engaged to Australian billionaire James Packer. Or is it? In an interview with E! News, the singer admits she’s keeping her kids out of the loop — for now. Considering Carey’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan, are only 4, it makes total sense.

She tells E!, “I haven’t talked to them about it completely because they are so young so they don’t really understand things yet, so you have to go slowly and explain things and always make sure they know that this is only going to be good for them.”

Elaborating a bit more, she says, “For me, as long as we are together and they have a great relationship with their dad, then that’s great.” She’s right; there’s no bad blood between Carey and Nick Cannon (he even congratulated his ex on the engagement), so in this case, ignorance may very well be bliss.
