Matthew McConaughey won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of an unlikely AIDS activist in the low-budget "Dallas Buyers Club."
It was McConaughey's first Oscar nomination, though he was the presumed frontrunner. He beat fellow nominees Christian Bale for "American Hustle," Bruce Dern for "Nebraska," Leonardo DiCaprio for "The Wolf of Wall Street" and Chiwetel Ejiofor for "12 Years a Slave."
McConaughey's performance as Ron Woodroof in the film also recently won him the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.
Fellow nominee Jared Leto won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
