Pearl and the Beard: Jovial spiritual

What happens when harmony, strings, and a marching drum meet up with sincere lyrics and wit with a macabre twist? The result is the spirited Americana trio Pearl and the Beard.

Brooklyn’s own boy-girl band has spent the past three years on the road, bringing their homegrown version of folk and soul to lucky towns across the country and across the pond. Their live show is a favorite at any broad-based gathering from Austin to the Lower East Side and their videos are the most unexpected nuggets of strange.

Art and heart and comfort combine in a unique way, under the guise of the two women and man that make up this very original music concoction. Each one a standout solo artist, Jocelyn Mackenzie, Jeremy Styles, and Emily Hope Price come together as a crafty force blending highs and lows in melody and character, deftly rounding each other out. Strong songwriting, instrumentation and harmonies give a lush landscape to heady lyrics. Romp through Pearl and the Beard’s recordings for a satisfying taste of homespun song and then ask for seconds.

Pearl and the Beard play the Bell House December 1 with Lucius.
