Don’t give Pharrell Williams any grief for collaborating with mainstream hit makers.

“People have told me. ‘Why are you working with ‘Nsync?’ Look at who Justin Timberlake is now. They told me, ‘Don’t work with Britney Spears.’ She had a record being played on black radio. So I don’t care about what people think. I care about what I can do, and what I can actually produce,” Pharrell told Metro at the new nightlife planner app YPlan’s release party last week at Lower East Side hotspot FINALE.

He’ll even take on One Direction. When we asked him about the rumors that are swirling around their possible collaboration, he seems to echo the same feelings for the group as their tween fan base. “I have met them and I think they are incredibly talented. Would I work with them? Absolutely,” he said. “If that happens it would be super awesome but if it doesn’t, I really respect them and Simon [Cowell] knows what he’s doing, man. And I tell you what. Harry Styles is super talented and so is Liam.”

The producer’s most recent mainstream convert is Miley Cyrus. The Twerker-extraordinaire calls him her “makeover mentor” and “rock” in a new interview with Harper’s.“His philosophy is that it’s not what you’re wearing, it’s the way you wear it. It’s not about the music you’re making, it’s how you’re making it.”
