Legendary rap group Run-DMC is making history.

The legendary group from Hollis, Queens will be the first rap group to ever receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

“I just got a call from the Grammys!! They shocked me!! We’re the first rappers to get this award!! Shocked! Grateful!. God is good!!!,” Joseph “Reverend Run” Simmons posted to Twitter yesterday.

In 1982, Rev. Run helped form the group with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell – who died in a shooting back in 2002.

Run-DMC was one of the first rap groups to ever be nominated for a Grammy award, but they never actually won one. They were also the first hip-hop act to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone.

To honor this major milestone set by the legendary rap group, Metro revisits some of their best songs and iconic images of Run-DMC.
