Rachel Zoe loves being an editor.

“I just love it so much,” she tells us. “It’s been an amazing gift for me. I always wanted to be editor-in-chief of a magazine, but didn’t want to enter the world of print. There are already so many good magazines out there that are iconic and legendary that I love and read. But this was an incredible, natural way for me to enter that world in a different way and still be able to respect media.”

As the editor-in-chief of The Zoe Report — which launched as daily newsletter for the fashion set in 2009 and has since amassed a digital following worthy of a $100 quarterly subscription box that delivers the tangible products Team RZ writes about into fans’ homes. The super star stylist became synonymous with Hollywood’s social “it” girl set before there was Instagram, working with the likes of Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Misha Barton in their early-2000s boho chic heydays.

Today, Zoe has her hands in even more facets of the industry — having just celebrated her apparel line’s first pop-up in Los Angeles and a well-touted fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection at New York Fashion Week. Vogue.com praised Zoe’s consistency in predicting her customer’s wardrobing needs, writing, ”Zoe and her team have tapped into what women want in the past few seasons.”

She calls us from Los Angeles where she’s just celebrated her son’s fifth birthday the day before to talk about her balancing act, who she’s loving on the red carpet these days and how she keeps her own wardrobe looking oh-so-fresh.

How did you get involved with Downy to create washable looks for the fall collection?

It came out of my genuine interest about fabric care as a designer and a stylist. You can never really have enough knowledge about how to take care of your clothes. As a designer, you have to take it into consideration for the customer and their wanting to wash things at home and not running to the dry cleaner. It’s such a gift and luxury for women-on-the-go, which at this point, everyone is. You’re always doing so many things at once and we may not be able to wait a week to get a piece back. It meant a lot for me to incorporate some washable pieces into my collection.

Have you ever had any personal fabric disasters?

I’m very sure that I have. There have been things in my life that were destroyed because they weren’t taken care of the properly.

Any stylist tricks for saving pieces that have gone wrong?

Always read the label — it’s there for a reason. I think people think a lot f things are washable, but they’re not, or it ends up being issues with the dryer that damages it. Also, I use Downy Fabric Conditioner because it retains the color and integrity of the garment. I think the best analogy is when you condition your hair. I would never not condition because then my hair gets frizzy and dry, and the same goes for your clothing. It can get nubby or the color washes out. A [fabric conditioner] will smooth it and keep the colors from fading.

Having been part of the early days of reality TV, do you ever indulge in watching it yourself?

I do not, but I don’t have a lot of time. I do love “The Voice,” but I don’t think you can really call that “reality.” I really just watch reruns of “Friends” at 11 p.m. because I fall asleep.

Do you have a favorite character?

I love them all so much. I’ve seen every episode about 600 times. It’s amazing.

Any red carpet newcomers you’re loving this season?

I loved Rooney Mara. She’s not brand new but I always love what she’s wearing. And I saw Maddie Hasson on the [“I Saw the Light”] red carpet and she’s really amazing. Not only is she beautiful, but I loved what she was wearing. She had a great, great Rodarte the other day.
