Mimi Cheng’s Dumpling Shop, a charming nook in the East Village, is named for the mother whose cooking New York City’s Taiwanese restaurants just couldn’t match.

So sisters Hannah and Marian (who confessed to Well&Good that they’re fitness junkies because they love to eat) decided to learn her secrets, and combined the techniques with sustainable, organic meats and produce. Marian left her career behind in fashion, while Hannah has taken on the extra workload on top of her finance job.

The dumplings, currently four varieties including meat and vegetarian options, can be fried or steamed and come with the requisite family recipe secret sauce.
