After years of planning and development, Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly scrapped plans to portray Queen frontman Freddie Mercury on the big screen, exiting the film due to creative differences with the surviving members of Queen, according to Deadline. Cohen was reportedly hoping for an edgier portrayal of the late singer for the film, which was first announced in 2010, while the band members are leaning toward a more family-friendly, PG-rated account.

I’m with Cohen on this one. It’s a biopic about a legendary rock ‘n’ roll band whose awesomely flamboyantlead singer died of AIDS. It’s kinda hard to make that safe for kids, right?
