Santigold might have broken our hearts when she pushed the release date of her third album “99¢” to Feb. 26 (It was supposed to be next week), but she’s making up for it.

The Philly-born singer-producer released another track, “Chasing Shadows,” on Annie Mac’s BBC1 radio show yesterday and premiered the video directed byElliott Lester, online this A.M. The track is produced by Vampire Weekend’s keyboardist/guitarist Rostam Batmanglij — who coincidentally also dropped his own solo single and video this week — with backing vocals by the West Los Angeles Children’s Choir.

It’s easily all we want to listen to this weekend, while sipping countless hot toddies into Tuesday, but Santigold would like us to pair said toddies with a little inward thinking. She says, via a release from her label:

“‘Chasing Shadows’ is about with the conflicted reality of an artist’s life. Caught in the web we spin around ourselves, a mixture of hubris and the guise of perfection, we fear being swallowed up by our own ambition. Never in the moment, as quickly as we reach our goals, our gaze shifts to those still looming in the distance. We judge ourselves harshly for not being further on the path and revel in the anxiety of racing the rate of consumption. The lyrics weigh the value of going against the current to maintain artistic integrity, and the feelings of isolation and vacancy bred by a persona that is always ‘on’ and ready for show.”
