Spice Girls to reunite in performance at Olympics closing ceremony

Americans can expect to see one of their favorite British things featured at this summer’s Olympic Games in London: the Spice Girls!

Rumor has it, Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) will take the stage for a performance at the games’ closing ceremony on August 12.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 1990s girl group that just recently reunited are on a lineup that also includes fellow British artists George Michael, The Who, Take That and Jessie J.

One Direction, a British boy band that’s enjoying a recent explosion of fame in the U.S., is also expected to make an appearance. Comedian Russell Brand may also take the stage in a musical act.

The Spice Girls will likely perform two songs at the closing ceremony, and one of them is expected to be their number one hit “Wannabe.”

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham said during an radio interview, “I don’t know about a comeback tour, but I loved being back with the girls…we are very excited about the Olympics.”
