Bizarrely, there is only one truly great movie about Thanksgiving, and that is Jodie Foster’s “Home for the Holidays,” starring Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr. and Claire Danes. But guess what? If you’re stuck with your family over the long weekend and want to watch it, you’ll have to plan ahead, since it’s not currently available on any streaming service. Don’t worry, though, because we’ve got some other Thanksgiving-themed viewing ideas, all of which you can stream right now if you and yours need some spontaneous quiet time.

Sure, it was a chore getting there, but it could’ve been worse, as the John Hughes classic “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (Netflix) is happy to remind you.

Gather all the ghouls together for a re-watch of “Addams Family Values” (Netflix). While the plot of the movie is about a lot more than just turkey and stuffing, Christina Ricci’s standout performance in her camp’s “the First Thanksgiving” play.

A stressful situation, to be sure. Why not alleviate some of that stress by watching a much more messed up version of the same experience with “The House of Yes” (Netflix), in which Parker Posey terrorizes Tori Spelling. It’ll make your own visit seem lovely by comparison.

Is schlocky horror more your family’s speed? Then load up “ThanksKilling” (iTunes), an intentionally bad slasher flick about a killer mutant talking turkey targeting sexy coeds in the woods. And if you can’t get enough, there’s a sequel, “ThanksKilling 3.” No idea what happened to No. 2.

Looking for something a little longer than a movie? “Mad Men” kicks off it final run of episodes next year. Might we suggest you get ready by spending the long weekend watching the series on Netflix from the beginning? As a bonus, you don’t have to talk to your family.

There’s another classic, of course: “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving,” which ABC airs Wednesday night to help you get in the spirit. If you miss it or forget to set your DVR, you might be able to find it on YouTube, but you didn’t hear that from us.
