Julianna Margulies is best known for her role as Nurse Carol Hathaway on the iconic NBC drama “ER.” Now, 20 years after that show began, she stars on “The Good Wife,” sporting a decidedly different look. Gone are Carol’s (and Julianna’s) wild black curls; on “The Good Wife” she sports sleek brown hair. I’m sure curly girls everywhere would love to know how she effects the transformation, but I’m afraid it’s no miracle conditioner: She wears a wig. And she loves it.

“The main reason [for the wig] was that I wanted her to have a little bit of that waspy look,” Margulies said on “The Writer’s Room” (via E! Online). “And I’m a Jew with curly hair, and I know that takes two hours every morning in the makeup chair, and I don’t have that kind of time. I was a new mommy.”

“The Good Wife” must have the best wig wranglers in the business, because Margulies’s hair always looks real and beautiful – none of the limp, thatchy messes you see on, say, “Game of Thrones.” Margulies loves her wig so much, in fact, that she’s now shilling the wig lifestyle to other actors. “I’ve actually had CBS executives call me to call actors that they want to wig and say, ‘Could you talk her into it?’ ” she says.

So which CBS stars has she gotten aboard the wig wagon? I’m going to get distracted looking for lace fronts on “Elementary” now.
