Now that you've recovered from the sudden death of Patrick Dempsey's "Grey's Anatomy" character, it's time to dig into exactly why McDreamy had to go and slip this mortal TV coil. "Shonda [Rhimes] had no other choice but to fire Patrick. He had been showing up late and was holding up production because he couldn't remember his lines," a source tells  Radar Online. "Shonda shouldn't be blamed. This is on Patrick and no one else."

And apparently Rhimes gave Dempsey a chance to fix his behavior, but he didn't take it. "There was definitely a lot going on in Patrick's personal life with the breakdown of his marriage, and Shonda had been very understanding," the source explains. "He was suspended mid-season, and was given another chance to get back on track. But when Patrick returned, there was a chip on his shoulder, and the cast was being impacted." So impacted, as it turns out, that he reportedly didn't even get a going away party from his cast-mates. And even Katherine Heigl got a going away party!
