Oppan grifter style! An unidentified man impersonated Korean pop star Psy last night at the Cannes film festival. The doppelganger showed up in large Psy-esque glasses with an entourage and walked the red carpet as Psy, according to Gossip Center. He then partied, posed for pics with celebrities, and even made off with some fancy Cannes swag, with none the wiser until he was gone.
Luckily for the mysterious master of disguise, the real Psy doesn't seem too upset about the incident. He retweeted a picture of his impersonator, saying, "Here the picture of Fake PSY in Cannes… LOL."
It's good he's keeping a sense of humor about this. It must feel pretty good to realize you're so popular that people pretend to be you to do better at parties. Of course, his tune may change if the doppelganger's next single is bigger than his.
This is hardly the most high profile crime at Cannes this year: there have also been a string of jewel thefts. The festival was hit by a second suspected jewelry heist on Thursday after a diamond necklace worth 2 million euros ($2.6 million) disappeared during a star-studded party, according to upmarket jeweler De Grisogono.
Fawaz Gruosi, the founder of the Swiss firm, said the necklace was part of the company’s 20th anniversary collection paraded by 20 models at the glitzy event at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes outside Cannes on Tuesday night. Sharon Stone and Paris Hilton were among the guests.
