I object to this. I realize that music has to have some danger to be fun and cool, but in the new promo for the MTV Video Music Awards, Miley Cyrus leads a band of those party monsters she likes to hang out with these days to a rave in a subway tunnel. Not to sound like an uptight old fogey about this, but is there actually anything cool or edgy about partying on the subway tracks? Some of us have places to be, is all. We don't have time for train delays caused by squished hipsters all over the tracks.
On the other hand, despite Miley's writhing and belly-baring and tongue-out-sticking, her own music is nowhere to be heard in the promo. Instead they went with the Beastie Boys' "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn." That's pretty funny.
Miley is taking heat for comments she made about transvestites (or possibly she meant drag queens) recently. While in Germany, she asked a photographer, “Are there any good German trannies? Any good German tranny bars?”
“Tranny bars, like guys as girls,” she added helpfully.
She later asked a different German guy, “You look like you may know more of the cool spots than anyone I’ve asked. We want to go somewhere weird. We want to go to a weird-ass club.”
As many people are now pointing out to Miley, “tranny” is considered an insulting term, and those who do hang out at drag bars don’t do so in order to titillate former Disney stars with their “weirdness.”
