I haven't seen "Pacific Rim" yet, but I just read a bunch of spoilers for it just so I could find out what director Guillermo Del Tormo has planned for its potential sequel. You owe me big, internet.
"Pacific Rim," the rare all-original summer blockbuster, is on track for a bigger opening weekend than expected, which is good news for those of us who are a little sick of superheroes and kids' toys. Things are looking so rosy, in fact, that Del Tormo is already spilling on his plans for "Pacific Rim 2: Atlantic Edge," or whatever. Minor spoilers for "Pacific Rim" ahead, but if I have to read 'em, the least you can do is do the same.
At the end of PR, the robots have a showdown outside the wormhole between our world and the monsters, and one of the robots, Gipsy, goes through to the other side. "Just think about it for a second," del Toro told MTV. "We sent Gipsy to the other side, right? It exploded, but whatever remains stays there."
That's not the only form we'll see Gipsy again, either."We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure," del Toro said. "We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you're gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special."
I refuse to look up what Kaiju and Jaeger are.
