Professional wrestling doesn't get a whole lot of ink around the ol' Word, because wrestlers, as a rule, neither party with Justin Bieber nor appear naked on "Game of Thrones" (although they're more than welcome to do either). But this story is too sweet not to share.
TMZ caught up with WWE superstar Darren Young and asked him if he thought a gay wrestler could make it in the WWE. Young -- who was remarkably good-natured about the whole thing, given that TMZ apparently ran him down at the baggage carousel in LAX -- replied, "Absolutely. Look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy. I'm very happy."
Young seemed utterly cheerful about his revelation. "I just don't think it matters. Does it matter to you?" he asked his interviewer, who responded, "Not one iota."
The WWE superstar added that he's not worried about how his revelation will be received in the wrestling world. "I'm happy with myself. Some people might not like it, some people will like it," he shrugged.
Young is the first openly gay WWE wrestler, and the first-ever pro wrestler to come out while signed to a major promotion.
