‘The Old Friends’
The world premiere of “The Old Friends” takes placethis Tuesday, Aug. 20. The play follows old friends on opposing sides who are forced to confront issues that have hounded them for generations. ‘Breakfast With Mugabe’
The New York premiere of London’s award-winning drama opened Saturday, Aug. 17. “Breakfast with Mugabe,” isa thriller inspired by newspaper reports about Robert Mugabe, a man who is severely depressed and convinced he’s haunted by the ghost of a dead comrade. ‘Final Analysis’
“Final Analysis” opens this Sunday, Aug. 18. It’s about turn-of-the-century Vienna, featuring famous figures: Gustav Mahler falls in love with Alma Schindler, Joseph Stalin meets a dangerous young man over a game of chess, Sigmund Freud faces the essential evil nature of man. ‘Love’s Labours Lost’
This weekend is the last chance to see “Love’s Labours Lost” al fresco at the Delacorte Theater.Directed and adapted by Alex Timbers (“Peter and the Starcatcher”), with songs by Michael Friedman (“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson”), this Shakespearean reinvention follows a king and his best buds who all decide to swear off the joys of women. But when four cute, clever girls from their past show up, they’re forced to reconsider. It closes Sunday, Aug. 18, and tickets are available at www.shakespeareinthepark.org.
‘We’re Gonna Die’
Closing Saturday night, TheLincoln Center Theaterproduction of “We’re Gonna Die”is written and performed by Obie Award-winning playwright Young Jean Lee. It’s a life-affirming show about the thing everyone has in common: We’re all, well, going to die – so hey, you may be miserable, but you won’t be alone. Music is by the band Future Wife, choreography is by Faye Driscoll and direction is by Paul Lazar. The show concludes Saturday, Aug. 17. Tickets are available at www.lct.org.
