All right. Who thought it was a good idea for Rihanna to go to a mosque?
I knew as soon as I saw these fashion-forward photos on her Instagram that this was Going To Be A Thing. RiRi is in the United Arab Emirates for her tour, and she’s clearly making an attempt to respect the local culture — she covered up in loose white layers for her concert, and she wore a hijab to visit Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
But Rihanna’s gotta Rihanna, you know? She was covered up and all, but I imagine visiting worshippers at the mosque were still startled to see her writhing next to a fountain and hip-checking a minaret.
Sure enough, they kicked her right out. “She left without entering the mosque, after being asked to do so, due to the fact that she had taken some pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the center’s management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration,” a representative for the mosque said, according to the Daily News.
Which is much more polite than “Get this American lady to stop making butterfly hands all over our place of worship.”
