Well, this is a match made in heaven. Or perhaps at Amy Poehler's house.
Fellow lady comedians and improv scene alums Tina Fey and Ellie Kemper will team up for a sitcom next year. The new show, which will follow a young woman who flees a cult to start a new life in New York City, will star "Office" actress Ellie Kemper. Tina Fey and her partner Robert Carlock will write and produce, according to Deadline.
The show doesn't have a title yet, but NBC must have a lot of faith in it — they took the unusual step of ordering it straight to series, without making a pilot first. It's a somewhat surprising move for NBC, since it seemed to be nudging its comedy stable in a more conventional, less critical-darling-y direction this year.
No word on whether Tina will appear in the show herself, but since she's working on a number of new projects, best not expect to see much of her. Hopefully Ellie will occasionally don glasses and do a dorky elbow dance so we don't get too lonely for Liz Lemon.
