Ben Folds trumps Adam Levine as a host any day. Ben Folds trumps Adam Levine as a host any day.

“The Sing-Off”
COMPETITION. This is the singing show that is not “The Voice” or “American Idol.” No, this is the singing show that’s all about a cappella groups (arguably the most talented of the lot, actually) and is judged not by Sexiest Man Alive (a debatable title) Adam Levine but by Ben Folds (also by Nick Lachey and some other people). If you’ve seen the video of Folds singing along to a liveChatroulette feed at a 2010 concert, you know that he is the best.
Season Premiere, 9 p.m., NBC

“The Great Christmas Light Fight”
COMPETITION. This is the premiere of a new show in which families across the country decorate the crap out of their homes in an attempt to win a $50,000 prize for most extravagant eyesore. Ahem, we mean most festive holiday display.
Series Premiere, 9 p.m., ABC

“The Story Behind ‘Friends'”
SPECIAL. For all those who fell for the big Internet hoax about a “Friends” reunion last week (and there were a lot of you), maybe this will serve as some soothing balm to that wound. This retrospective takes a look behind the scenes of everyone’s favorite ‘90s sitcom through the eyes of the people who helped make it happen.
8 p.m., TVGN

‘Home Alone 2: Lost in New York’
MOVIE. This sequel is not nearly as good as the original, but it’s loads better than the third installment, which had the gall to replace Macaulay Culkin with some other kid actor who, it must be said, could not match Culkin’s charisma. In “Home Alone 2,” Kevin’s parents yet again lose their kid, this time in Manhattan (seriously, what is with these people?) and he’s forced to take on not only old nemeses, but some new as well. (Shout out to Tim Curry as a snarky bellhop wise to Kevin’s tricks.)
8 p.m., AMC
