A new musical adaptation of Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” opened on Broadway on March 13.

The Broadway Channel visited the red carpet at the Winter Garden Theatre to chat with celebrities in attendance, such as Whoopi Goldberg, Bobby Lopez (composer of “Book of Mormon”) and Sylvester Stallone himself.

“The characters lived on well beyond me, with a better guy than me, and every generation re-discovers it,” says Stallone. “It’s beyond my comprehension.”

At the opening night after-party, Andy Karl (who plays Rocky) and Margo Seibert (who plays Adrian) talked about what it’s like to play these iconic lovers under the direction of Alex Timbers, who also makes an appearance in the video.

“The world was masculine and butch,” Timbers says of putting the creative team’s vision onstage. “It didn’t feel like the ‘Forbidden Broadway’ version of ‘Rocky.'”

Seibert agreed, adding: “One of my friends said [that during intermission] the men’s line at the bathroom is longer than the women’s — which I think is big for musical theater!”
