The trailer for the new movie with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne and Oscar Isaac is here! No, not a thrilling new drama from an esteemed filmmaker. It’s the latest in the rebooted “X-Men” series.

With news that Cate Blanchett may (or may not!) be signing up for “Thor: Ragnarok,” it’s official — if it wasn’t already — that blockbusters, once the exclusive purview of mere good-looking, semi-talented movie stars, have Hoovered up the world’s mightiest thespians. (As a friend noted, it’s not long before Daniel Day-Lewis appears in a Marvel movie.)

The trailer for “X-Men: Apocalypse,” out May 27, boasts the usual comic book fantasia: mighty blue villains (Isaac’s Egyptian-ish Apocalypse), fear of global destruction and, best of all, cities being leveled for our delectation.

For a change it’d be nice to get a more modest baddie, one who’ll settle for a simple bank robbery. Or better yet, a movie where the bad guys do win, do wipe out all the heroes, and then find themselves with nothing left to do. They’ll finally know how Alexander the Great felt. Starring Toni Collette, another great actor who hasn’t gone comic book. I’d pay to see that.

Anyway, witness the carnage below:
