John Oliver surprised viewers on last night's episode of his HBO series with an exclusive in-person interview with NSA leaker in exile Edward Snowden — "the most famous hero and-or traitor in recent American history," as Oliver puts it. And Oliver didn't go easy on him during their Moscow-set chat. "How many of those documents have you actually read?" he asks. "You're giving documents with information you know could be harmful, which could get out there."
In a friendlier section of the chat, Oliver finds a much more personal way to make Americans care more about the subject of government surveillance. "Well, the good news there's no program named 'The D— Pic Program,'" Snowden says. "The bad news is [the government is] still collecting everybody's information, including your d— pics." And Snowden at least got a kick out of video of tourists in Times Square having no idea who he is.
