You know what’s been missing from the whole gun debate thing? How the star of “Wedding Crashers” feels about it. But fret no more, because Vince Vaughn is happy to weigh in. As it turns out, Vaughn is a big fan of guns. Or at least he’s a big fan of the sound effects he’s come to associate with guns thanks to Hollywood movies.

“It’s well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back,” he tells the U.K. edition of GQ. “I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars. We have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It’s not about duck hunting, it’s about the ability of the individual.” What’s really astounding is that he said this to a British magazine. That must’ve been one awkward interview.

Oh, but there’s more, and it has to do with guns in schools: “You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do,” Vaughn says. “And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality.” Right, but aren’t most obesity-inducing foods stuff you eat with your bare hands? I’m not sure what my point is here.
