It was less than a month ago that Prince announced at a New York City concert that he was writing a memoir that Random House would publish. Tentatively titled, "The Beautiful One," the book was meant to be his life story, in his own words. But with his untimely death confirmed just moments ago, the future of the book is left up in the air.
USA Today reported last month that a press release announcing the deal said it would be "an unconventional and poetic journey through his life and creative work — from the family that shaped him and the people, places and ideas that fired his creative imagination, to the stories behind the music that changed the world."
The book was set to come out next fall and the deal will likely still go through, although will likely no longer be dubbed a memoir, but a biography. Prince was writing the book with a close friend, who will likely continue the writing process alone.
While the book will surely miss the voice so many would want to hear from, it will now be celebrated in a new way, a remembrance of his life and power of his songs.
