Not everything happening in the world of dance this season is “The Nutcracker.” Here are plenty of other options from the city’s top troupes:

BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC
The Next Wave Festival at BAM has been rocking the Fall season, representing a broad range of dance from classic and innovative artists such as Bill T Jones, William Forsythe, David Dorfman, Doug Varone, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Brian Brooks, John Heginbotham, Kate Weare, Angelin Preljocaj and Hofesh Shechter.

From Nov. 20-23, you can catch Susan Marshall’s newest work “Play/Pause,” which features an original score composed by David Lang played by the live electric guitar quartet, Dither and Mantra Percussion. Reggie Wilson’s Fist & Heel Performance Group presents “Moses(es)” from Dec. 4-7, a layered questioning of leadership through multiple versions of the Moses narrative set to a Diasporic soundscape with live vocalizations. Rounding out the Festival is a world premiere by Tere O’Connor. “Bleed” integrates three smaller works into an evening length performance that runs from Dec. 11-14.
