Peter A. Lavelle knows how to sell Ultimate Boot Camp, the class he founded a decade ago.

“Our South Boston location provides quite a mood-enriching backdrop to the day’s beginning. There’s a sunrise every morning in the background, awakening right alongside us,” he muses poetically. “This location has the sandy terrain of Carson Beach, the grassy fields of Moakley Park and the hidden gem workout locations that we exercise our way to, such as the Stairs of the Heights and the shore toward the JFK Library.”

You almost forget that there are any downsides. But before you sign on, be prepared to start at an ungodly hour in subzero temperatures.

Ultimate Bootcamp South Boston starts at 6 a.m.

“Ultimate Bootcamp opened its South Boston location due to the density of the young professional population,” says Lavelle.

Ultimate Bootcamp boasts classes at eight locations throughout the area, adding South Boston in 2008. Does the average mouse-pusher really want to exercise so badly that he or she will brave the beach first thing on a cold winter morning? The Carson Beach bootcamp is one of only two that Ultimate Bootcamp runs year-round, even through the depths of winter. Lavelle says it’s part of that Southie spirit.

“Many diehards would rather exercise outdoors in 20 degrees than be inside a gym,” he declares.

Clearly, he’s one of them.

“In essence, our South Boston location has it all: beautiful vistas, Mother Nature’s best gym and people as progressive about their health and exercise as they are about their lifestyles,” he says.

What keeps people coming back for more, however, isn’t just the view. It’s that Ultimate Bootcamp helps you get the body you want.

“Ultimate Bootcamp has set out to address what many of South Boston’s residents struggle with in their fitness lives — accountability and motivation,” Lavelle says. “With a group setting — and a finite period of time on the calendar — people can confidently start on a four-week exercise plan, knowing that the finish line is actually within sight.”
