Kim Jong-un’s infamous haircut is reportedly a must-have look: Last week, it emerged that male students in North Korea were ordered to adopt Kim’s shaved sides and longer parted top.

It’s not the first time that the Hermit Kingdom has enforced hairdressing by decree. In 2005, the government passed a mandate declaring that all men’s hair should be no longer than 2 inches in length, apart from older gentleman who could maintain a slightly longer style for a comb-over. Although the latest law does in fact appear to be little more than a rumor, Metro decided to prepare for a North Korean bad hair day and speak to grooming expert Carmelo Guastella.

Who do you think influences Kim Jong-un’s hairstyle?
The dictator looks like a cross between Brad Pitt and Simon Cowell. Sadly for Kim Jong-un, this extreme style doesn’t suit people with a round face. He should have a rethink.

What should we ask for to get the look?
Ask your barber for a No. 1 on the back and sides, making sure that the shape is completely vertical to create a 90-degree square shape. Unlike Simon Cowell, Kim Jong-Un has it cut to a length of about 3 inches on top, so that he can achieve his mini middle parting and trademark flicks. It’s a longer version of the flat top hairstyle.

How do we keep that cool, calm and collected dictator salon look all day?
You need to get a blow dry and finish with hairspray. This’ll keep the style looking lustrous for the whole day.
