Is Glossier Cloud Paint worth the hype?

In the hype heard ‘round the world, Glossier debuted their newest face color product — a gel-crème blusher called Cloud Paint — on the faces of stars on the Oscars’ red carpet. Chrissy Teigen rocked a warm glow from a blend of Beam and Dusk, while Allison Williams and Rashida Jones looked “post-pilates-pink” with rosy washes of Haze. Taraji P. Henson amped up her already sculpted cheekbones with Dusk. “Get the Look” tutorials were everywhere, with the product cleverly launching just days later.

True to their mantra, “skin first, makeup second,” the brand packed Cloud Paint with collagen to plump skin and retain moisture, with diffused, blendable pigments formulated to be layered and tapped to perfection. The four shades — peony pink Puff, sheer buildable berry Haze, lit-from-within peach Beam and warm contour Dusk — are available now at a consumer-friendly price: two for $30. (Because, of course you want two.)

But are they any good?

Our experiences with Glossier are mega-hit or meh — some have become staples (the skin tints and priming moisturizers are excellent) while others have fallen short of expectations (the serums are conceptually interesting, but didn’t blow competitors off our vanity shelf.) The cream-gel blush — packaged in adorable squeezable 10 ml tubes a la an actual tube of acrylic paint— are creamy, lightweight opaque gels that apply easily when tap-tap-tapped along the cheekbone. The shades we tried — Dusk and Haze — provide a natural, balanced flush when layered, and the formula allows for enough dry-time to blend the color before it stains. Fingers are an ideal applicator, mashing droplets of the product into custom hues before blending up the cheekbone, just like they do on Instagram.
