Everyone still wants to go to Vegas

Longing to laze on the beach? Hurry up and book ASAP. January is one the best — read: cheapest —times to take that warm weather getaway you’ve been craving. But, according to Trip Advisor, the most popular winter destination is hot in a different way: Las Vegas topped the list among U.S. travelers. The travel site, one of the world’s biggest, looked at search traffic to determine the top 10 most popular locations, plus the average cost of a one-week trip to each.

“According to TripAdvisor data, the majority of U.S. travelers are looking for escapes away from the cold this winter, with destinations in Florida and Mexico among the most popular,” says Brooke Ferencsik, director of communications for the heavily trafficked site.“Travelers can find value by booking January trips, when rates are more favorable between the peak periods of the December holidays and spring break.”

The average cost of a week in Las Vegas — including airfare, hotel, meals and up to two tours or similar planned activities — between Jan. 1 and March 31 is $2,302; the cheapest week in that time period is Jan. 25-31 ,at $1,803.
