Are you Netflix's next tagger? Credit: Netflix/YouTube
Have you ever dreamt of a job that requires you to watch Netflix all day? It turns out that you can make that dream a reality.
The tech blog Endgadget recently noticed an intriguing opening posted on the Netflix official careers site. The streaming media service is currently looking for a new "Tagger" - that's the person who goes through Netflix's content and adds descriptors to each piece of media and classify them as "Strong Female Leads" or "Violent Revenge Thrillers." The taggers will note if a film is a "suspenseful thriller," for example, and jot down details like whether the movie is set in space or is a Western.
According to the job description, the "'tagging process' is the first stage of the Netflix recommendation system and works in concert with advanced algorithms that generate highly personalized suggestions for every one of Netflix’s nearly 50 million members, offering them an individualized set of titles matching their tastes."
In true movie fashion, Netflix even created this trailer for the position:
The perks of the job include working from home and a free Netflix subscription. But you'd better know your stuff, potential applicants are asked to have "a degree in film or film history and/or experience directing, screening writing or filmmaking."
But there is a catch as far as American job seekers are concerned: the position is based in the United Kingdom and only UK and Ireland residents are eligible to apply.
