News, notes about NYC’s food scene

Fridays at R Lounge

Don’t let its location fool you: The deals inside the R Lounge in the Renaissance Times Square hotel are worth the trek to tourist mecca. Each Friday, you can get your hands on some haute barbecue offerings like beer barbecue chicken tacos with grilled corn and watermelon salsa and smoked brisket banh mi with pickled vegetable slaw and grilled jalapenos. Two Times Square, (714 Seventh Ave., at West 48th Street), 212-261-5200

‘Happy Arte’ at PizzArte

The gourmet pizza joint just launched its take on happy hour: $5 house wines, $6 well drinks and $3 Moretti beers are available Monday through Friday, as are Italian nibbles like housemade burrata and summer black truffle pesto bruschetta and tuna and wood-oven roasted tomato tartare. The best part? If you miss the deal during regular happy hour (4 to 7 p.m.), you can take advantage of the offers from 10:30 p.m. until closing. 69 W. 55th St., 212-247-3936

Free popcorn at Guilty Goose

Your mouth might hesitate at the sound of this one, but we’re gonna mention it anyway: From 4:30 p.m. to close every day, you can sample goose fat-flavored popcorn topped with smoked paprika salt at Guilty Goose’s bar. More good news: If you’re there on a Monday, select bottles of wine and sake are half off! 131 W. 23rd St., 212-255-3727

Hookie Fridays at Hotel Chantelle

Put your final summer Fridays to good use at Hotel Chantelle, where from 2 to 8 p.m. each Friday you can sip specialty cocktails and indulge in Afro-Euro-Asian cuisine while a DJ spins in the background. The hotel is hidden away in the Lower East Side, so if you decide to play hookie, your secret’s safe with us. 92 Ludlow St., 212-254-9100
