Snack preview: The best of what’s coming to grocery aisles

Take a bite out of this! From salty to sweet, nutritious to indulgent, we tried all the new things coming to grocery shelves at Snack Attack, a tasting preview held in NYC this week.

The big takeaways: Household brands, including Horizon, Stacy’s PitaChips, and Entenmann’s, have new flavors and nutrients to add to their empires. But craft and artisan snacks got their own spotlight for the first time at the event, mirroring a rising trend of fancier snacking. Here are our top picks of them all.

Snackin’ Bites
Entenmann’s

Little Bites muffins are a big hit with kids — but they’re not exactly the nutritious ideal So Entenmann’s created new Snackin’ Bites, a healthier but equally yummy alternative in apple cinnamon and strawberry flavors.

Garden Veggie Chips
Hain Celestial Sensible Portions

Like Sensible Portions’ Veggie Straws? Then try their new Veggie Chips, which are packaged upright like Pringles, but definitely healthier — they’re made from nutritious vegetables instead of potatoes.

Fruit and Vegetable Blend Yogurt Alternative
Ruby Rocket’s

If you prefer to eat dairy-free but are feeling left out of the yogurt craze, Ruby Rocket’s creamy and delicious non-dairy yogurt packets are for you. They come in three flavors: Stellar Strawberry, Beam-Up Berry and Telescopic Tropic.

Mezé Dips
Chobani

Chobani adds their first savory line to their dairy snack empire with Mezé Dips. It’s the yogurt we know, but in four surprising flavors: Roasted Red Pepper, Three-Pepper Salsa, Chili Lime and Smoked Onion Parmesan. Pair with veggies, crackers, pretzels or chips.

Fire Roasted Jalapeño Chips
Stacy’s Pita

Speaking of chips, Stacy’s Pita Chips has a new flavor: Fire Roasted Jalapeño. This is the first spicy flavor for the brand, and are certainly tasty on their own but also go well with a mild salsa.

Popped Rice Clusters
Soy Vay

Soy Vay brings the fusion of their kosher and Asian sauces to their first snack line of Popped Rice Clusters. The snack is gluten-free, made from non-GMO ingredients and comes in three different flavors: Thai Peanut, Ginger ’n Sesame and Spicy ’n Sweet.

Chocolate Protein Plus Milk
Horizon Organic

Ease your worries about your child eating a balanced diet. For the pickiest little eaters, Horizon has created Organic Chocolate Protein Plus, a low-fat chocolate milk that boasts 15g of protein per serving.

Dark Moon Artisan Petite Brie Cheese
Marin French Cheese

Take your favorite fancy Brie on the go! Marin’s new Dark Moon petite Brie cheese is rinded in a layer of vegetable ash, giving the creamy, aged brie a delectable savory flavor.
